هدد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب بوقف التجارة مع بعض الدول إذا لم يقدم الاحتياطي الفيدرالي لبلاده على تيسير سياسته النقدية.

وكتب ترمب، في منشور على منصته «تروث سوشيال»، «خفضوا سعر الفائدة، وإلا سأوقف التجارة مع الدول التي نعاني عجزاً تجارياً معها»، مبرراً الأمر بالنمو المحدود لسوق العمل وبشكل أكبر بكثير من المتوقع، إذ لا يكفي ذلك لتبرير خفض أسعار الفائدة.

ولم يوضح الرئيس الأمريكي أيضاً طبيعة الارتباط الذي يراه بين خفض أسعار الفائدة المرغوب في الولايات المتحدة والعجز التجاري مع بلدان محددة.

وكان محافظ الاحتياطي الفيدرالي الأمريكي كيفن وارش قد أكد أخيراً على إعطائه أولوية أكبر لاستقرار الأسعار، وأشار إلى استعداده لرفع أسعار الفائدة.

وينتظر أن تصدر بيانات التضخم الجديدة في الولايات المتحدة يوم الجمعة القادم، لكن وزارة العمل استبقت هذا الموعد بإصدار تقرير عن سوق العمل في أغسطس الجاري، لافتة إلى أنه جاء أقوى بكثير من المتوقع، إذ ارتفع عدد العاملين بمقدار 162 ألفاً، بينما توقع اقتصاديون في المتوسط إضافة 55 ألف وظيفة جديدة فقط.

Trump wrote in a post on his platform "Truth Social," "Lower interest rates, or I will stop trade with countries with which we have a trade deficit," justifying this by the limited growth of the labor market, which is much greater than expected, as it is not enough to justify lowering interest rates.

The U.S. president also did not clarify the nature of the connection he sees between the desired interest rate cuts in the United States and the trade deficit with specific countries.

Recently, U.S. Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh emphasized prioritizing price stability and indicated his readiness to raise interest rates.

New inflation data in the United States is expected to be released next Friday, but the Department of Labor preempted this date by issuing a report on the labor market for August, noting that it was much stronger than expected, with the number of workers increasing by 162,000, while economists had predicted an average addition of only 55,000 new jobs.
