According to the new price list, the price of a liter of 95 octane gasoline has risen to 195 Syrian pounds, a liter of 90 octane gasoline to 185 pounds, a liter of diesel to 175 pounds, household gas to 1600 pounds, and industrial gas to 2560 pounds.
The price of a ton of fuel oil has also increased to 52800 pounds, a ton of "Mc asphalt" to 88200 pounds, a ton of "bitumen asphalt 60/70" to 59440 pounds, and aviation kerosene to 4770 dollars per gallon, according to the Syrian news agency "SANA".
Exceptional Increase in Insurance CostsThe Syrian Ministry of Energy confirmed that the rise in fuel prices in Syria is due to an exceptional increase in the cost of securing these derivatives globally, coinciding with the maintenance of the Baniyas refinery, noting that the adjustment is temporary and aims to ensure the continuity of supplies and availability of the material in the local market.
The ministry explained that the Syrian market is affected by the rising costs of securing gasoline, diesel, and fuel oil globally, at a time when the Baniyas refinery has entered a comprehensive maintenance period of about two months, which temporarily increases the need to import ready-made petroleum products.
It stated: "The current increase is not solely related to the price of crude oil, as the markets for refined derivatives are experiencing pressures due to a decline in supply, disruptions in refining capacities, and rising transportation, shipping, and insurance costs, which increase the cost of securing derivatives for the Syrian market."
According to the prices monitored by the ministry, the price of a ton of diesel is approaching 1400 dollars, and gasoline is around 1350 dollars, while the price of Brent crude is hovering around levels close to 100 dollars per barrel.
300,000 Barrels Daily RequirementThe ministry clarified that Syria currently needs approximately 300,000 barrels of oil and its derivatives daily, compared to a local production of crude oil of about 100,000 barrels per day, which necessitates covering part of the needs through imports.
It added that having local production of crude does not mean the ability to convert all quantities into gasoline and diesel, as part of the Syrian crude is heavy and does not fully match the available refining capacities and specifications, while limited quantities of unsuitable crude are exported for the needs of the refineries, alongside importing the required products for the market.
Gasoline and Diesel ConsumptionThe daily market need for diesel, according to the ministry, is about 7.72 million liters, of which 3.09 million liters are locally produced and 4.63 million liters are imported, meaning that about 60% of the supply relies on imports.
As for gasoline, the average daily supply is about 2.32 million liters, of which 1.54 million liters are locally produced and about 775,000 liters are imported, while the average supply of household gas is about 912 tons daily, with a significant reliance on imports.
