S&P Agency has revealed an increase in recovery and resilience indicators in the economies of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. According to the latest Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data for the non-oil sector, the pace of production and new orders growth has accelerated.

According to the data, companies have experienced improvements in the timeframes required for material supply, thanks to their ability to adapt their supply chains to changing conditions. Additionally, the outlook for the coming year improved in the middle of the third quarter of the year, despite ongoing uncertainty regarding the geopolitical landscape.

Business Growth

The Purchasing Managers' Index data currently covers 4 of the 6 GCC economies, excluding Bahrain and Oman. The composite index for the GCC for August showed that business activity experienced rapid growth during the month, at a pace close to the levels recorded in February, just before the outbreak of conflict in the region. Similarly, new orders rose sharply, and business confidence reached its highest level in six months, driven by companies' hopes to enhance their ability to focus on generating sales if regional tensions ease.

Central Role

Andrew Haker, the agency's economist, explained that strong increases in non-oil business activities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE played a central role in improving growth prospects in the Middle East; as expansion rates recorded their highest levels in 6 and 7 months consecutively in these two countries. The relationship between the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) and official data in these economies indicates the likelihood of accelerating GDP growth during the third quarter of the year, following the disruptions experienced in the previous period during the first half of 2026.
