Russia announced its welcome to a U.S. proposal to invest its frozen assets in Europe to finance joint projects between Moscow and Washington, confirming its readiness to work on the proposal that includes the assets of the Russian central bank held by European financial institutions.

Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov revealed in statements to "Asharq Bloomberg" on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank that the American side proposed the idea of utilizing the frozen Russian assets in joint projects and programs, describing the proposal as "rational and interesting."

The statements come alongside reports revealing a U.S. proposal to release part of the frozen Russian sovereign assets and convert them into an investment mechanism under Washington's supervision, amid European objections to the idea.

Western countries had frozen assets of the Russian central bank estimated at around $300 billion following the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war in February 2022, with the European Union holding the majority of them.

The Russian minister did not disclose the nature of the targeted projects or the mechanism for investing the funds, nor was there an announcement of reaching a formal agreement on the proposal.

In a related context, Siluanov confirmed his country's readiness to resume energy exports to European markets and to meet any new demand quickly, noting that the return of petroleum product supplies to Western Europe requires lifting the sanctions imposed on financial transfers and exporting companies, and reaching understandings regarding them.
