A recent Egyptian scientific study, prepared for a PhD degree in management at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, revealed the role of the entertainment industry in bringing about economic, social, and cultural transformations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, driven by the objectives of Vision 2030 aimed at diversifying the national economy, improving quality of life, enhancing investments, and providing job opportunities.
The study, prepared by researcher Salah Maher under the title "The Impact of the Entertainment Industry on Social Change and Its Contribution to Economic Growth in Light of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030," indicated that the entertainment sector has become one of the supporting drivers of economic and social transformations by expanding investment and cultural activities and opening new horizons for growth and development.
The study addressed the role of the General Entertainment Authority, headed by Advisor Turki Al Sheikh, in developing the entertainment industry in the Kingdom, and the contribution of entertainment initiatives and events in enhancing economic and social movement and supporting the transformation pathways that the Kingdom is witnessing.
Expansion Beyond Major CitiesThe study recommended strategic expansion in establishing facilities and organizing entertainment events in various regions of the Kingdom, especially in cities that host fewer events compared to Riyadh and Jeddah, which contributes to distributing the economic and social returns of the sector over a wider geographical area.
It emphasized the importance of enhancing national content in entertainment programs and events to preserve cultural identity and community values, in addition to strengthening the role of the official channels of the General Entertainment Authority as a source of information related to the sector.
New Investments and JobsThe study called for supporting small and medium enterprises operating in the entertainment industry by providing financial incentives for entrepreneurial projects and facilitating regulatory procedures to attract local and foreign investments, especially in sustainable entertainment infrastructure.
It confirmed the importance of localizing jobs and developing national competencies through specialized training and qualification programs to empower Saudi youth to manage and operate entertainment projects, enhancing the sector's contribution to economic growth and job creation.
The discussion committee for the thesis included Dr. Howaida Mustafa, Professor of Media and Deputy Head of the General Authority for Information, Dr. Mona Qudri, Dean of the Graduate School of Management at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, and Dr. Alaa Ahmed Abdelaziz, Professor of Applied Statistics and Economics at the British University in Cairo.
